Looters descend on N2 accident scene

UMDLOTI – Looters descended at the scene of an accident on the N2 Northbound near Umdloti after a truck lost its load of fruits and vegetables.

Members of Reaction Unit South Africa were called out to the scene, after a fully-loaded 14-ton Hino truck travelling from Clairwood Market lost control and slammed into a concrete retaining wall and steel barrier. The vehicle was en route to deliver produce to supermarkets in Empangeni and Richards Bay.

The impact tore open the truck’s side tarp, spilling crates of fruit and vegetables across the busy highway. More produce was scattered as the driver continued for several metres before bringing the truck to a stop.

According to the truck’s conductor the driver fled the scene shortly after the impact, leaving both the vehicle and its cargo unattended.
