How Planting A Tree Today Could Save Lives Tomorrow

A heartwarming and powerful story came to light in 2020 from Dalaguete, Cebu in the Philippines. In 1975, Epimaco Amancio planted a pine tree while working as a caretaker. His goal? Simply protecting his farm from falling debris.

35 years later, that same tree stopped a bus from plunging into a 500-foot cliff, saving 37 lives. When the driver lost control near a risky cliffside, the sturdy pine tree stopped the vehicle – saving all the passengers, most of them students of Don Bosco Technological Center, from falling off the edge.

The incident was more than just a lucky escape; it became a shining example of how small acts of care for the environment can have life-saving consequences decades later. Epimaco, smiled with humility and gratitude to the camera after he found out his tree was the savior.

This story reminded everyone that trees are not just for shade or beauty – they are protectors. Epimaco’s action shows how planting a tree today could save lives tomorrow.
