Fruit & Vegetable vendor found in possession of stolen phone
VERULAM – A street vendor was found in possession of a stolen phone valued at R6,000 on Tuesday morning. Reaction Unit South Africa were called out to a home in Oaklands after two men entered the woman’s home and stole the mobile phone.
According to the complainant, she provided services as a caregiver. She noticed the men passing-by her home on foot and requested they assist with carrying an elderly person to a nearby car. The men then left and she realised that one of the unknown men had entered her home and stole her phone.
The woman drove around for two hours and spotted one of the suspects on Oaklands Drive. She then contacted the RUSA Operations Center. Reaction Officers interviewed the man who pointed out a business premises on Todd Street where he had sold the phone for R250.
Reaction Officers found the phone in possession of a fruit & vegetable vendor operating on the roadside. The phone was handed over to the victim after she declined to open a criminal case. The suspects used the cash from the sale of the phone to purchase drugs.
