Shock as Captonian salon charges tourist R7,335
CAPE TOWN – Kino Yves, a solo Youtube traveler that has been on the road for three years, from setting off from Pont sur Seine, France, Yves’s plans was nothing short of a Greek epic: to traverse Europe, venture through the Middle East, and ride through the heart of Africa to Cape Town and back again – with his trusty electric trike that serves as his only companion, as he navigates through breathtaking landscapes some of you have never witnessed.
Social media users and fans of the series were shocked and disguisted by what they saw on a recent travel video he uploaded over the weekend to his Youtube channel of his experience in a salon in Longmarket street, Cape Town, that charged him R7,335 for spending 4 hours in the salon for a haircut, beard trim, facial and a foot massage. Many fans felt that Yves was taken advantage of just because he’s a tourist. It’s disheartening to see businesses exploiting visitors instead of welcoming them with fair and honest services.
Some of the comments from fans:
@Etienne-ck3tr -“As a Capetonian, I am absolutely ashamed that one of our businesses charged you R 7 335 for a haircut, facial and foot massage – that is outrageously expensive. The cost of those 3 services would typically be around R 2 500 at a good salon.”
@angiemac8066 – “Sadly they took advantage of you being a tourist. Over R7k for a massage, haircut, shave etc….absolutely unheard of! Euphoria you should be ashamed of yourselves! A good marketing opportunity was missed here with Yves!!”
@Pietcoke1 – “Yves as a proud South African and a loyal follower and supporter of your channel, I would like to apologize for being ripped off so badly. It all started with the “Extended Foot Massage” I realize you said that you where there for the experience, but I am convinced that you did not plan to spend R7000 for the “experience” I dought strongly if all those “treatments” is worth more than R2000.”
@valgillieron110 – “Hi Kino, Been a fan of yours forever and as a South African I am so sorry you had to be scammed like that in our beautiful Mother City! Always get a quote first and in future try to get a referral from where you stay or someone you meet. Above all, keep safe! Warmest wishes.”
@elnalush2748 – “Kino, I am happy for your experience, but sad about the rip-off! I hope Capetonians watching your program will give that salon a piece of their minds! lady owner said she is from Iran? That is the shame of the foreigners moving into our country and taking advantage of tourists. I trust the rest of your stay would be pleasant. Love your videos, keep them coming!”
