Ethiopian businessman rescued by anti-kidnapping task team

GAUTENG – The National Commissioner of SAPS, General Fannie Masemola has commended the relentless efforts of police officers across the country as 14 165 suspects were arrested and 155 illegal firearms recovered in the last seven days.

In the latest success, the SAPS anti-kidnapping task team recovered four illegal firearms including an AK47 and rescued an Ethiopian businessman from a kidnapping ring. The businessman was kidnapped outside a restaurant in Norwood on Sunday, 09 March 2025.

On Monday, a team comprising of various units within the SAPS led by the anti-kidnapping task team working closely with private security, traced the victim to a house in Kesington, Johannesburg. A shoot-out ensued and one kidnapper was shot dead, and five other kidnappers were arrested.

Vehicles used in the commission of the crime were seized and some items belonging to the victim have been seized including luxury watches and jewellery. Job well done gentlemen!
