The Attacus Atlas, one of the largest butterflies in the world, is not only impresses by its wingspan of over 30 cm, but by its amazing defense: the tip of its wings mimics a snake’s head in strike position scaring away potential predators. Native to Southeast Asia, this colossal butterfly lives only a few days in its adult phase, as it does not feed, surviving solely on the reserves accumulated in its caterpillar stage.
