Man bitten by black mamba

HAZELMERE – A 27 year old man conducting a prayer was bitten by a Black Mamba in Hazelmere this morning. A member of the public contacted the Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) Operations Centre at approximately 06:41 requesting urgent medical assistance for the man. RUSA Paramedics were immediately dispatched and located the male behind the Hazelmere Dam wall in Hazelmere.

He stated that he was conducting a prayer next to a river when he was bitten by a large black snake on his left foot. The man was adamant that it was a Black Mamba. He displayed some symptoms of Neurotoxic poisoning and extensive swelling at the bite site. He walked a few meters from the river and sought assistance from Security Officers who contacted RUSA for assistance. The male was treated symptomatically and rapidly expedited to a medical facility.
