Cape Town To London In A Toyota Corolla Conquest

This conquest is worth writing about. In 2017, the late Julia Albu drove her 1997 Toyota, which already had over 300,000 km on the clock – 12,000km from Cape Town in South Africa to London UK.

We can’t decide what is more remarkable, the 20 year car or the 81 year old lady doing the trip on her own. She took a year to do the trip and arrived in London after having no mechanical problems at all.

After the trip the car was serviced by Curry Motors in England and after a new exhaust mount, back roll bar mounts and a full cam belt service, having 366,000km on the clock. The Conquest named Tracy could have done the trip back again.

No wonder these cars were one of the biggest sellers of the 90’s and early 2000’s, what a car! Sadly Julia passed away in 2021, the car has retired to the Nico Fourie Museum in Klerksdorp.
