Survival: Tell The Time Of Day Using Your Hands

Learn how to tell the time if you ever find yourself in a situation where you need a watch, cell phone or any object that tells you the time. By measuring the distance between the horizon and the sun with your hand, you can either deduct the exact time or have a good accuracy.

First you have to raise your hand horizontally and parallel to the horizon, with the palm of your hand towards you and find the base of the sun. Then, from that perspective, you have to count how many fingers are left to reach the horizon, as explained in the picture. The secret is that each finger equals 15 minutes of sunlight.

Based on this information, you’ll know how much it’s left until dusk and you’ll even be able to deduct the time (if you know what time it gets dark in the area).
