Thirteen year old raped by psychiatric patient

VERULAM – A 29 year old man was arrested after he raped a teenager in the Mhlasini. RUSA officers were called out to the area after the community apprehended the male. On their arrival, a resident informed officers that he was proceeding to his residence when he noticed the 13 year old female exiting a bush followed by the suspect who was adjusting his pants.

The resident questioned the girl who informed him that the male is her neighbour and he had just raped her in the bush. The male approached the suspect and apprehended him with assistance from the community.

The accused’s mother arrived at the scene and claimed that he is a Psychiatric patient. She could not confirm exactly what form of disorder he is being treated for. The man was placed under arrest and handed over to the Verulam SAPS for further investigation.
