Did You Know How ‘black Ivory Coffee’ is Made?

Black Ivory Coffee, considered one of the the most expensive coffees in the world that can reach prices of up to $2,000 (R36,630) per kilogram is produced in small quantities in Thailand and the Maldives.

This exclusive coffee is obtained through a unique process where elephants consume Arabic Thai coffee beans, which go through a natural fermentation in their digestive system. The taste of Black Ivory coffee is influenced by elephants’ digestive enzymes, which break down the coffee’s protein.

The result is an exceptionally smooth coffee, with notes of chocolate and red berries, and a reduced bitterness. With an annual production limited to just 200 kilograms, a portion of the proceeds support the Golden Triangle Asian Elephant Foundation, contributing to elephant conservation and the well-being of their caregivers.

This coffee not only stands out for its taste and exclusivity, but also for its positive impact on sustainability and wildlife.
