The Man Who Defied the Impossible and Reached Over 200km/h on Bike
On July 19, 1962, Jose Meiffret, a French cyclist broke the world record on an autobahn in Germany, behind a modified Mercedes-Benz 300SL that provided him with a “wall” of air to protect himself from the wind.
On a bike engineered with extreme precision – including an inverted fork and reinforced tires with an enormous chainring, which had no fewer than 130 teeth.
Meiffret faced intense vibrations and the constant risk of a fatal crash, demonstrating unparalleled bravery. His feat became a symbol of innovation, courage, and the human ability to overcome sporting boundaries. The record-setting bike Meiffret used, remains on display in a museum in Paris.
