Suspect to appear in court for possession of unlicensed firearm and ammunition
BRITS – A 27-year-old Ethiopian national is expected to appear before the Brits Magistrates’ Court on Monday, 25 November 2024, for possession of two unlicensed firearms, unlawful possession of ammunition and contravention of Section 49 (1)(a) of the Immigration Act, 2002. (Act No. 13 of 2002).
According to information at our disposal, Hartbeespoortdam police received and operationalised intelligence about a shop owner who kept unlicensed firearms at his shop. The suspect’s shop at Schamburg informal settlement, was searched on Thursday night, 21 November 2024. The action resulted in the discovery of two firearms and ammunition at the backroom. Furthermore, it was discovered that the suspect was in the country illegally and was using illegal documents belonging to a 65-year-old man.
The Provincial Police Commissioner, Lieutenant General Sello Kwena applauded all members involved in the operation for the sterling job. He also thanked members of the community for working together with the police in fighting crime and ensuring that criminals are put behind bars where they belong.
