Man crushed by overturned truck on R102
CANELANDS – A man was crushed after a tip truck transporting tar overturned and landed on him at the R102 & Vincent Dickenson Road robots on Tuesday afternoon. RUSA received multiple calls for assistance from the public requesting assistance at the scene. Reaction Officers & RUSA Paramedics were immediately dispatched and arrival on scene at approximately 15:50.
Emergency units discovered a Mercedes tip truck lying on its side on top of a white Toyota Hilux bakkie. A man was crushed between both vehicles. The driver of the truck, a Swazi National, was not injured. It was alleged that the truck was travelling in the direction of Tongaat to Verulam when its brakes failed. The driver attempted to veer off the road, but struck a Toyota Fortuner before colliding into the white Toyota Hilux bakkie that experienced mechanical failure.
The driver of the bakkie was attempting to repair his vehicle when the truck collided and crushed him between both vehicles. Three flat bed Tow Trucks were utilised to lift the truck to allow First Responders to remove the man’s body and assess the extent of his injuries.
