Suspects remanded in custody for drug/robbery of pensioner
VERULAM – Two females who were arrested by Members of Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) for drugging & robbing a 75 year old man have been remanded in custody by the Verulam Magistrates Court.
The woman made their appearance today (Wednesday) since the arrest on Monday afternoon. Reaction Officers tracked one suspect to Montford in Chatsworth & the second suspect to Sunford in Phoenix. While the women were in custody family of the suspects handed in the items stolen on Friday (8/11/2024).
Both women were charged criminally for drugging the 75 year old pensioner who they met on Facebook. It is alleged that his hot drink was laced with drugs. The pensioner awoke hours later to find his house ransacked.
The State Prosecutor apposed bail & informed the Court that the suspects were linked to two similar cases in Phoenix. Both cases were registered with the South African Police Services (SAPS) in the Ethekweni Region. Information was also received that one suspect was convicted and handed a ten (10) year sentence wholly suspended for five (5) years for a crime with the same Modus Operandi.
The Magistrate remanded both females to the Police Cells at SAPS Verulam and the matter was adjourned to November 20, 2024 in F Court. Both identities of the suspects & Reaction Officers BodyCam Footage will be withheld until the Identity Parade has been concluded by the Investigating Officer. An Update will follow.
