Madibeng attending to damages of localised flash flooding and general maintenance

BRITS – The Madibeng Municipality is responding swiftly to the damage caused by the localised flash flooding that occurred over the past couple of days. Damage caused by flooding was reported in areas that include Letlhabile, Maboloka, Mothotlung, Klipgat and Greens – among other areas.

The municipality’s roads and stormwater division along with the disaster management spent assessing damages caused by flooding in preparation of any repairs and responding to immediate needs of the affected community members respectively.

The assessments are ongoing. “We urge the affected communities to remain calm as our teams from the infrastructure & technical services and disaster management are on the ground attending to the all problems caused by the floods” said Mayor, Cllr. Douglas Maimane.

The maintenance of stormwater drainage systems is currently ongoing in Brits and environs as well as Hartbeespoort. The mainatenance works will also be carried out in other areas of the municipality as the roads and stormwater division is assessing the most critical spots/areas.

The municipality, through the Department of Community Services has embarked on war against illegal waste dumping and extension of services to areas that are not serviced. The municipality extended services to thirty one (31) wards, which did not receive any refuse removal before. The extension of services to such areas has created green jobs through extended public works program. The municipality is driven by legislation and regulations to service such areas with waste management.
