Massive damage caused by fire at secondary school

RUSTENBURG – On Monday, 04 November 2024, at 11h10, Rustenburg Local Municipality Emergency and Disaster Management Services received a call of a building on fire at Rauwane Sepeng Secondary School.

The Fire Department responded to the scene and on arrival found that the first floor of a block of classes were engulfed with fire, while the roof was already beginning to collapse.

A total number of six (6) classes, a bathroom and an office burned down. Fire Fighting operations immediately commenced and backup was requested from Bojanala Fire Services. Fire department personnel managed to protect the ground floor and other classes from more damages. The fire was under control at 13h10.

No fatalities or Injuries were reported. Acting Executive Mayor Cllr Karabo Phutu, Members of the Mayoral Committee and Councilors also responded to the scene. The cause of fire is still unknown. The scene was left with SAPS for investigation.
