Madibeng Mayor meets Damonsville community
DAMONSVILLE – The Mayor of Madibeng Local Municipality, Cllr. Douglas Maimane on Wednesday evening engaged with the broader community of Damonsville at the meeting held at the community hall and discussed numerous issues affecting the community. The Mayor was joined by Speaker of Council, Cllr. Ditshego Mbezi, Members of the Mayoral Committee and Cllr. Piet Mokau of Ward 21.
Key among them was the electrification of Damonsville Ext 5 whereby a total of 2,200 households will be electrified in project set to commence soon. The appointed contractor was also introduced the community.
The Mayor also made a plea to the Damonsville community to cooperate with the Municipality in the process of the installation of new split meters to help meet the deadline of 24 November 2024. He further urged the members of the community to come forth for indigent registration.
“We appeal to everyone of you to allow us in your homes to install new split meters. This would improve the revenue of the Municipality and enable us to among other things address the backlog of infrastructure development as well as the accelerate service delivery. We as well call upon you to apply for indigent registration so that you can qualify for among other things 6kl of free water, 50 units of electricity.”
The Members of community were granted opportunity to ask questions and among them was matter of formalization of the informal settlements in Ward 21. In his response the Mayor said that: “We want to formalize all informal settlements in Ward 21 including others like Block H in Letlhabile and those in Oukasie. We want out people to have the dignity that goes with having a title deed. The relevant MMC (Member of the Mayoral Committee) will provide feedback to the community about the progress” concluded the Mayor.
