BREAKING NEWS: Madibeng Mayor leads operations to deal with scourge of selling expired foods
BRITS – Madibeng Mayor, Cllr. Douglas Maimane has applauded a team of government departments that collaborated on Wednesday morning to deal with the what has become scourge in communities across the country – the selling of expired foods to the public and non-compliance by retail shops in Brits.
Madibeng Local Municipality, Bojanala District Municipality, Home Affairs department and the South African Police Services teamed up and raided shops in Brits and Oukasie. Tons of expired foods and those without manufacturer’s information were confiscated and destroyed. Three shops in Brits were closed due to non-compliance and a total of 18 illegal immigrants were arrested.
“The health of our people comes first and we continue with operations of this nature without any fear or favour. We appeal to our people as well to help us in this fight by always checking things like the expiry dates on foods to avoid cases of sicknesses and deaths.” The Mayor said.
