Injured juvenile male monkey euthanised
MISSIONLANDS – A juvenile male monkey was euthanised after he was shot with a pellet gun. On Monday, a resident of Mission Road contacted the Reaction Unit South Africa Operations Centre after she discovered an injured monkey in her yard.
Reaction Officers were dispatched and on arrival, found the monkey seated on a tree. He sustained a penetrating wound to his head and an injury to his left leg. Officers captured the monkey and contacted Monkey Helpline for assistance. A volunteer from the organisation arrived shortly thereafter and expedited the animal to a Veterinarian.
Reports and X-Rays later forwarded to RUSA indicated that the monkey had been shot and a pellet was lodged in his brain. His foot was also fractured. The monkey was sadly euthanised due to the extent of his injuries.
