Flying Squad arrests nine suspects during operations
GAUTENG – Benoni Flying Squad members arrested nine suspects and recovered one motor vehicle during operetaions that started on Wednesday 09 October ending, Sunday 13 October 2024. Three suspects aged 31 to 38 were arrested at High Road, Brakpan, Kaalfontein Extension 1 and Extension 12, Ivory Park for possession of drugs. Crystal methamphetamine, mandrax and nyaope were recovered in these separate incidents.
On Saturday at around noon, members received a call for back up at corner Main and Homestead Streets, Edenvale. Mamba Security and members of the Community Policing Forum had cornered a silver Haval with four suspects after there had been a lookout the previous day for a vehicle fitting the description involved in vehicle thefts and breakings around the area. Upon investigation at the scene the Haval chasis number was tested and came out as reported hijacked on a Protea case in September 2024.
The suspects were immediately arrested. A search of the vehicle led to the recovery of two vehicle signal jammers, numerous vehicle computer boxes and keys as well as a large variety of breaking implements. The suspects aged 32 to 49 were detained at Edenvale SAPS, all exhibits handed in and the vehicle impounded.
In further policing, a 37-year-old suspect was arrested on Sunday morning around 00:15 at Tom Jones off-ramp, N12, Benoni for driving under the influence of alcohol. A 40-year-old suspect was arrested at around 14:30 after allegedly stealing wine at a liquor store in Voortrekker Street, Brakpan. Investigation continues.
The suspects will be appearing in the local Magistrate’s Courts facing charges of possession of drugs, possession of hijacked motor vehicle, possession of vehicle breaking implements, driving under the influence and shoplifting.
