Multiple dagga busts following tip-offs
POTCHEFSTROOM – In an endeavour to rid communities of drugs, police in Ikageng operationalised intelligence regarding suspected drug dealing activities and arrested two suspects on Saturday afternoon.
The pair’s Toyota Hilux vehicle was spotted and stopped for a search leading to the discovery of bags containing more than 340 kg of dagga with an estimated street value of R5 million.
The accused – Asiphe Nomde (32) and Mncedisi Mthunzini (41) were released on a warning following their appearance in the Potchefstroom Magistrates’ Court. They are expected to reappear before the court on Tuesday, 26 November 2024.
In another incident, a 38-year-old suspect is due to appear in Court soon, for unlawful dealing with dagga. The suspect was nabbed following a tip-off from a whistle blower about the vehicle that was transporting dagga from Masibekela towards Kamaqhekeza. Members found 20 bags containing about 200.7 kilograms of dagga worth at about R500 000.
