Police Minister joins district SAPS operations, 200 suspects arrested
GAUTENG – Ekurhuleni District Commissioner Major General Anna Sithole was joined by the Minister of Police, Mr Senzo Mchunu and City of Ekurhuleni Executive Mayor, Councillor Nkosindiphile Xhakaza as she led the multidisciplinary operation in Ekurhuleni where two illegal firearms were recovered and more than two hundred suspects arrested for various crimes on Wednesday, 09 October 2024.
This integrated operation emanates from a Collaboration Agreement signed in Ekurhuleni yesterday, 08 October 2024, calling on all law enforcement agencies, private security companies, and the community to work together in the fight against crime.
The operation that was conducted in Germiston, Benoni, and Alberton saw two hundred and twelve (212) illegal immigrants being apprehended, three suspects arrested for possession of unlicensed firearms and three suspects for dealing in drugs, amongst other crimes.
The team raided the abandoned and hijacked buildings in Germiston where illegal electricity connection is rife. Illegal liquor outlets were closed down and illegal mining hot spots patrolled. The Minister engaged with the community as he walked the streets of Germiston. These operations are expected to grow from strength to strength as we approach the festive season.
