Another fuel price cut coming in October
GAUTENG – The expected fuel price cut for October has been confirmed by the Mineral and Petroleum Resources. On Monday, the department announced that petrol and diesel prices will be lowered by more than R1 a litre on Wednesday. This is the fifth consecutive decrease since June 2024.
According to the department, the drop is due to the stronger rand against the US dollar and lower international oil prices. The rand appreciated, on average, against the US dollar (from 18.05 to 17.68 Rand per USD) during the period under review. A spokesperson for the Mineral and Petroleum Resources Department, Robert Maake, said both grades of petrol, diesel and illuminating paraffin will see a decrease.
Petrol 93 octane will decrease by R1.06 cents, while 95 octane will decrease by R1.14 cents per litre. Diesel will decrease by R1.12 and R1.14 cents per litre. Illuminating paraffin at retail level will decrease by R1.48 cents per litre, whilst LP gas will increase by 23 cents per kilogram.
