Out-of-control truck plunged down Kloof road, collides with 17 vehicles
CAPE TOWN – Another massive multi-car accident has occurred on Kloof Nek Road. On Thursday night, a cement truck reportedly lost control coming down the steep road causing it to collide with approximately 17 vehicles before hitting a building wall and stopping.
This huge accident occurred almost exactly a year after the other major accident on Kloof Nek when a 24-wheeler truck lost control going down the steep slope, resulting in injuries to six individuals, including former Miss South Africa, Cindy Nell-Roberts.
Reports indicate that the accident happened at around 18:40 on Kloof Nek, with the truck crashing into and dragging multiple vehicles before driving into a newly opened ice cream shop.
Motorists at the scene who witnessed the accident told reporters that as the truck made its way down the steep incline, it appeared to lose control. One witness said the truck “was flying down at an amazing speed, taking cars with it as it was going down the hill”.
At least 10 injuries have been recorded so far, according to City of Cape Town traffic spokesperson Maxine Bezuidenhout. One of the cars even seemed to have hit an electricity box causing a power outage in parts of Tamboerskloof, which was thrust into darkness. Kloof Nek Road was closed between Upper Union and Burnside Road and reopened when the scene was cleared.
