Security officer shot dead – colleague deprived of firearm
MISSIONLANDS – A 51 year old Security Officer was shot dead and his colleague was deprived of his firearm on Estuary Drive in Missionlands on Sunday.
The officers were employed at a Durban based Security Company. They were guarding employees from the Ethekwini Water Services (EWS) while they were replacing water pipes in the area. Four suspects approached the Nissan NP 200 bakkie and robbed the driver of his Norinco 9mm pistol containing eight rounds of ammunition.
They fired multiple rounds at his colleague who was seated in the unbranded vehicle. The suspects thereafter fled on foot in an unknown direction. A member of RUSA was on patrol in the area when he was flagged down for assistance. The officer contacted the RUSA Operations Centre at approximately 10:19 and requested urgent medical assistance for the injured male.
On arrival, RUSA Paramedics discovered that the victim had sustained multiple gunshot wounds to his head, chest and face. He was pronounced deceased on arrival. No other injuries were reported, a case of murder is being investigated.
