Charred human remains discovered in burning vehicle

VERULAM – Charred human remains were discovered in the boot of a burning vehicle in Waterloo later this afternoon. Members of RUSA were called out at approximately 12:36. On arrival, Reaction Officers discovered the Verulam SAPS, Ethekwini Fire Department & Fidelity Security in attendance.

It was established that the Toyota Etios was located engulfed in flames in a sugar cane plantation by Security Officers after its tracking device began emitting signals.

Firefighters were summoned and were in the process of extinguishing the fire when they discovered charred human remains in the boot. The identity and sex of the deceased cannot be confirmed.
