COGHSTA and Finance MECs road show comes to Madibeng
BRITS – The North West Departments of Corporative Government, Human Settlements & Traditional Affairs (COGHSTA) and Finance have embarked on a roadshow with all municipalities in the province in efforts to deliver on their constitutional mandate which directs the provincial government to support and capacitate them (municipalities).
The sessions of the roadshows are further intended to discuss the performance of individual municipalities based on the Municipal Assessment Tool (MPAT) pillars, putting people first in the delivery of basic services, good governance, sound financial management, building capable local government institutions and local economic development.
Today, Wednesday, 04 September 2024 was Madibeng’s turn whereby the two MECs, Hon. Gaoage Molapisi and Hon. Keneetswe Mosenogi visited the municipality along with the support staff of the two departments. The provincial entourage was welcomed the Executive Mayor, Cllr. Douglas Maimane who was joined by members of the Mayoral Committee and Senior Managers during the first session of the meeting and later, Speaker Ditshego Mbezi, Single Whip, Joseph Ratloi and councillors joined in for the second session.
The two departments, made key presentations on the subjects of Municipal Finance performance and Municipal improvement assessment report wherein among others, areas of performance that need attention of the municipality were highlighted and as well a reflection made on those areas of performance where the municipality has done well like in the case of total expenditure of the Municipal Infrastructure Grant (MIG) in the previous financial year.
The meeting was also presented with a report on the state of housing projects in Madibeng and the skills audit report that was conducted by the provincial government. Councilors were also afforded opportunity to engage the provincial government issues raised in all reports.
