How the cackle of geese saved Rome

According to legend, during the sack of Rome by the Gauls in 390 BC, a group of Gauls, undetected by the guards, tried to climb a cliff to reach the Capitole at night, but the geese, sacred to the goddess Juno, woke up the Roman defenders at her Temple near the cliff the Gauls were climbing, saving the Capitole.

This early warning allowed the Romans to prepare and defend the hill, preventing a complete disaster. The event highlights the importance of vigilance and the sometimes unexpected ways in which danger can be averted. The story of the geese became a symbol of divine protection and the critical role of seemingly minor details in larger historical events.
