R37 million worth of counterfeit goods seized in multiple warehouses

JOHANNESBURG – An intelligence driven operation was conducted in Kerk Street downtown Johannesburg where a multi-disciplinary team confiscated counterfeit goods to an estimated R37 million.

The DPCI Serious Commercial Crime Investigation received information which was operationalised and with the assistance of SAPS National Counterfeit, Contraband and Illicit goods policing, Border Police (ORTIA) Public Order Policing Gauteng, Gauteng Saturation unit, Gauteng Crime Prevention Wardens, and brand holders pounced on several warehouses on Kerk street where an assortment of branded sneakers, shorts and t-shirts. The brands confiscated include Timberland, Adidas, Reebok, Lacoste and Nike.

At this stage no one has been arrested and investigations are continuing.
