Operation cuts off drug supply to learners and students in Parkweg
BLOEMFONTEIN – Four suspects aged between 20 and 41 were arrested during the early hours of yesterday morning. The suspects were caught in the act preparing and packaging dagga intended to be distributed for peddling at different identified schools in Harris Street and Victoria Road, Willows and Institutions of Higher Learning in President Brand Street and Nelson Mandela Drive.
Mangaung Metro Tactical Response Team received intelligence about drug supplier operating from a unit at White Flats in Brandwag near Bloemfontein. Observation was held on the targeted unit and the team pounced on the suspects at about 01:30 in the morning. A search was conducted and firearm with four live ammunition rounds was found hidden between mattresses where the 21-year-old suspect sleeps. The unit is used as a storage for dagga and the drug is prepared and packaged before being distributed at the place.
Dagga rolled into joints; packaged in different sizes of zip lock plastic bags and some still loosely kept in containers weighing at 62,55 kilograms with an estimated street value of R1 500 000.00 were seized. Four males originally from Bloemfontein, Botshabelo and Thaba Nchu were arrested on the premises. Khokha speed points used for electronic payments and cash believed to be the proceeds of drugs sales were also confiscated.
A case of dealing in drugs was opened at Parkweg Police Station. The suspects are detained in police custody and will appear in Bloemfontein Magistrate’s Court soon.
