Abused teenager flees with employers cash
PARKGATE – Reaction Officers searching for attempted robbery suspects apprehended a teenager with cash stolen from his employer yesterday. RUSA operational center received a call for assistance from educators at a school after two (2) males attempted to rob a female of her valuables.
One of the suspects fired shots in the air after the woman called out for assistance. Reaction officers were immediately dispatched and on arrival, were pointed in the direction the suspects had fled. Officers noticed one of the males approximately 400 meters away.
Officers pursued and apprehended him. He was found in possession of an Okapi pocket knife and several packets of cash & coins amounting to R2,510. His accomplice, who was in possession of the firearm managed to evade arrest. Officers interviewed the 19-year-old suspect who stated that he is employed by a drug dealer.
He stole the money from his employer who verbally abused him and denied him access to water to bath. While fleeing with the cash, he met a friend who requested his assistance to rob the female for her cellphone. He agreed to assist but fled empty handed after the female drew attention from the public. The victim positively identified the suspect as one of the males who attempted to rob her. The teenager was handed over to the Verulam SAPS for further investigation.
