Following this, he transitioned to modeling in New York before relocating to Hollywood in 1938 to pursue acting. Initially, he worked as a supporting actor and stuntman, and in 1940, he adopted the name Clayton at the suggestion of his agent.
During the 1940s, Moore earned the title of the “King of the Serials” at Republic Studios, featuring in a variety of B-westerns and serials. His significant breakthrough occurred in 1949 when he was cast as the Lone Ranger in the television series of the same name. Moore portrayed this character from 1949 to 1952 and again from 1953 to 1957, with a brief hiatus due to a salary dispute.
The role of the Lone Ranger became synonymous with Moore, and he continued to make public appearances as the character for many years following the series’ conclusion. In 1979, he encountered legal issues with the Wrather Corporation regarding his portrayal of the Lone Ranger, but these challenges were ultimately resolved in his favor.
Clayton Moore passed away on December 28, 1999, in West Hills, Los Angeles, California, at the age of 85. In recognition of his contributions to the entertainment industry, he received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 1987, which uniquely commemorated both his name and “The Lone Ranger.”
