OR TAMBO – Two unlicensed firearms, were recovered in two separate incidents in OR Tambo District during a high density visibility. Mtontsasa visible policing members recovered an unlicensed firearm with two live ammunition at Sixontweni locality whilst attending to a complaint and a 49-year-old male suspect was arrested and is appearing at Flagstaff magistrate court today 31 July 2024 facing charges of possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.
In another incident in Port St Johns, crime intelligence driven operation by the Zonal District Task Team led to the arrest of three suspects aged between 34 and 36 for being in possession of and dealing in drugs, one suspect was found in possession of an unlicensed firearm with live ammunition. All three suspects hailed from Caguba locality in Port St John’s and will appear in Port St John’s magistrate court today 31 July 2024 on similar charges of possession of and dealing in drugs and an added charge of possession of an unlicensed firearm on the 34-year-old suspect.
“Drugs do not only destroy the bright future of our youth but also result in brutal murders amongst those selling them, therefore we as police have the responsibility of strengthening the visibility by arresting all those involved”, said OR Tambo District Commissioner, Major General Cetyana.
