Malawian robbery suspect stripped naked & assaulted

CANELANDS – A Malawian National that held a farm employee at gunpoint & robbed him of valuables was apprehended and stripped naked before being severely assaulted by the community. RUSA was called to the scene of the armed robbery.

Reaction Officers arrived at the location at approx. 08:51 (Tuesday) and was informed that a lone suspect had held up a farm employee with a 9mm pistol robbing him of his mobile phone. The victim informed the local community who spotted the suspect and apprehended him. The suspect was stripped naked & severely assaulted. The community members left prior to the arrival of Reaction Officers.

When interviewed, the suspect informed Reaction Officers that he was from the Salima District in Malawi & had arrived in South Africa in 2021. He had purchased a replica 9mm pistol in Durban Central & had been robbing victims for three (3) years. Three (3) cellphones, a replica firearm & pepper spray was found in his possession.
