Two men injured in drive-by shooting
VERULAM – Two men were injured in a drive-by shooting that occurred on Friday evening. The RUSA Operations Centre received multiple calls from business owners and pedestrians reporting a volley of shots being fired on Wick Street.
All available Reaction Officers were dispatched at approximately 18:14 and on arrival discovered a man in the driver’s seat of a silver VW Polo. He was shot multiple times in the body and face. A Security Officer was struck in thigh by a stray bullet.
Paramedics stabilised the injured men before expediting them to hospital. Several 9mm and rifle cartridges were covered at the scene. A white VW Polo was abandoned in front of the critically injured man’s car. The rear window was shot. It has not been confirmed if the vehicle was abandoned by the suspects.
Witnesses reported seeing a silver Hyundai Elantra (registration unknown) that was smashed at the rear fleeing the scene. The motive for the shooting has not been established at this stage.
