Police arrested four suspects following attempted hijacking
GAUTENG – Police have arrested four suspects, recovered two firearms and a stolen vehicle following an attempted hijacking in Rossetenville earlier today. One Suspect was shot and killed while another was wounded. He will be taken for medical assistance under police guard.
Police members from various units including TRT, K9, Counter intelligence, security personnel, DPC tracking team, Tracker, CAP specialised operations and Gauteng traffic airwing were following up information about a group of suspects who were committing armed robberies in the area. Police met up with the suspects as they were busy with their patrols. A high speed chase ensued and the police cornered the suspects in Oakdene while they were attempting to hijack another vehicle. Suspects fired shots at the police and the police retaliated.
One suspect was shot and killed on the spot, another was injured while others were arrested. Police recovered two firearms and a stolen vehicle. The vehicle was reported stolen at Brooklyn last year. Police have since opened possession of stolen vehicle, unlicensed firearm, inquest, and attempted hijacking dockets. Possibility of further charges cannot be ruled out.
