Suspect arrested, contraband good seized

PRETORIA – In a joint operation between the Gauteng Commercial Crime Investigation Unit and the South African Health Products Regulatory Authority (SAHPRA), a search and seizure warrant was executed at premises in Waverley, Pretoria, resulting in the confiscation of counterfeit medicine worth R30,000.

The operation, which took place on Wednesday, 17 July 2024, targeted the distribution of counterfeit and contraband goods and resulted in the seizure of 61 items of Schedule 2, 4, 5, and 6 medicines, which are only dispensable by pharmacies. A suspect was arrested during the operation and will appear before the Pretoria Magistrate’s Court soon.
