Pensioner dies after fall from jackfruit tree

TRENANCE PARK – A 74-year-old man was pronounced deceased after he fell from a jackfruit tree on Maple Driveon Friday morning. RUSA reaction officers were called out to the property at approximately 11:41.

On arrival, Reaction Officers were directed to the rear of the yard. Valaithum Moodley also known as George, was located behind his rear boundary fence. He showed no signs of life and was pronounced deceased by Paramedics.

According to his wife, Valaithum utilised a ladder to cut jackfruit from a tree in his back yard. It is believed that the ladder slipped which resulted in the pensioner being catapulted over the fence. His family added that he had a history of Vertigo.

It could not be confirmed if he demised from a medical condition or due to the impact of the fall. Valaithum is a former employee of Packo in Verulam. Our inner most condolences to the family and friends in these sad times.
