Chickens, the mini-dinosaurs of the 21st Century
Back in 2003, a unique fossil of the T-Rex was discovered with soft tissue intact, allowing scientists to extract enough DNA for research. This million-year old fossil was compared to the DNA of 21 modern animal species, and the result? The proteins found in the DNA of the T-Rex were most like those of the chicken.
Evidence for this relationship includes similarities in skeletal structures, such as the wishbone (furcula), hollow bones, and three-toed limbs. Additionally, genetic studies have shown that birds share a significant amount of DNA with theropods like T. rex. Thus, modern birds, including chickens, are considered the direct descendants of these ancient dinosaurs.
