Another Monkey-Pox death – Health Dept.
GAUTENG – The Department of Health has confirmed the death of another patient who tested positive for Mpox. The 40-year-old man from Ladysmith in KwaZulu-Natal was never admitted to hospital after testing positive. This brings the death toll to three, with two reported in KZN and one in Gauteng. The accumulative number of confirmed positive cases sits at 16.
“The latest cases/patients include a 40-year-old male from who presented with Mpox-like symptoms including rash all over his body and never presented in hospital,” said spokesperson Foster Mohale “He passed on at home, and the results came back positive for Mpox on the 23rd of June.”
The two other cases confirmed in Gauteng are a 43-year-old man from Johannesburg and a 29-year-old man from Mamelodi. “This brings the total number of laboratory-confirmed cases of Mpox in South Africa to 16, with eight cases from KwaZulu-Natal, seven cases from Gauteng, and one from Western Cape.” Mohale said the patients had no international travel history.
