Tornado leaves trail of destruction

TONGAAT – The pictures posted were captured by members of Reaction Unit South Africa in Tongaat on Tuesday morning following the aftermath of a tornado that left a trail of destruction in its path.

Several homes were damaged and residents displaced after a tornado ripped through several areas in Tongaat on Monday afternoon. Reaction Officers attended to 76 callouts related to flooding, structural collapse and medical emergencies.

Multiple vehicles were also damaged by debris. An adult female and a minor child were killed in two separate incidents of structural collapse in Sandfields.

Reaction Officers received information this morning that a third person was killed after an informal home collapsed. Reaction units also received confirmation that the body of a man was recovered by the SAPS Search & Rescue Unit in the rubble of a collapsed house in Magwaveni.
