Body of missing pensioner recovered

ESENEMBE – The body of a missing 69-year-old pensioner, Russell Lexton Cromhout was recovered in Esenembe on Saturday. Cromhout was reported missing to RUSA on Thursday (30 May) by his family.

According to his son, the elderly male was last seen at his small holding in Esenembe two weeks ago. His house was discovered ransacked during a wellness check after family & friends were unable to make telephonic contact with him. The RUSA Robinson R44 helicopter conducted an aerial search in an attempt to track down the missing male or his vehicle but neither could be located.

On Saturday (1 June), Police Officers from the Umhali SAPS apprehended one suspect in Upper Tongaat. He was found in possession of a firearm and ammunition. A second suspect was thereafter arrested. He was found in possession of the victim’s white Hyundai Tucson.

Police Officers were then led to a sugar cane plantation where the body of the victim was located. Several household items stolen from the victim’s home were also recovered from the suspects.
