SAPS announced arrest of two men for murder of Ditebogo Phalane (5)

SOSHANGUVE – “The reaction that came from the house was the family saying that God is great and may the police continue the great work that they are doing,” said family spokesperson Gift Makoti. “Hopefully, the leads that they do have are factual, and they can continue searching for more people if there are any.”

Makoti said the family was still struggling to come to terms with the violent manner in which the child died. “The family is distraught and inconsolable. They are still in deep pain, but the news of the arrests brings a bit of comfort to the family, and eventually, we’ll get to see the suspects in court.”

During the announcement of the arrests, Gauteng police commissioner Tommy Mothombeni said they are still searching for a third suspect. “On the crime scene, we picked up two cartridges, which we have already sent to ballistics, and, of course, the two firearms which we have now from the two suspects; there will be an investigation in terms of ballistics.”

Meanwhile, Makoti confirmed a flower drop-off session at the family home on Thursday afternoon. “Everyone is welcome to come through. We will have an evening prayer with the local Methodist Church pastors.” Phalane will be laid to rest at Soshanguve Crossing Cemetery this Friday.
