Wondering why your delivery is taking so long?
SOUTH AFRICA – Dash cam footage shows the moment a man lost control of his delivery vehicle after using his cellphone while driving. If you’ve ever needed more proof of why you shouldn’t be on your phone while driving, here it is. It goes without saying that texting or using any hand-held communication device while driving is prohibited by law.
Not only is it illegal, but it is also extremely dangerous and could affect the lives of not only you, but those around you. According to Stats SA, human factors such as speeding, reckless driving, distracted driving (often due to smartphone usage), and driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs are among the primary causes of road traffic accidents.
A recent video that was shared on X, formerly known as Twitter, shows just how quickly things can go wrong when being distracted while driving. The video shows a delivery driver continuing on a straight road while seemingly being distracted by a cellphone in his hand.
He repeatedly kept looking down at the device in his hand when, in the blink of an eye, his vehicle swerved off the road onto the side of the road. When the man realises he is no longer on the road, it is already too late. He quickly tries to regain control of the vehicle, but within moments, his truck hits a drainpipe on the side of the road.
Dash cam footage shows the man flying through the air in the vehicle as the airbag bursts out from the steering wheel. Luckily, the man didn’t seem too hurt as he still managed to get out of the car.
