Houses of Traditional leader & illegal miners burned down

GRASKOP – Earlier on Sunday evening a tense situation was witnessed in Moremela village next to Matibidi which is about 36 kilometres from Graskop in Mpumalanga, as residents were burning houses of other residents who were believed to be housing illegal immigrants involved in illegal mining and crimes caused in the community.

One of the community members said that this comes after heavily armed illegal miners shot and injured community members during a community meeting, aimed to address issues of illegal mining and crimes which is rife in the area.

After the burning of the house, community members went further to burn down another house of a traditional leader who is accused of receiving money from the illegal miners for them to operate in the area.
