Water meters targeted by drug users
BRINDHAVEN – Several properties in Brindhaven and surrounding areas are experiencing rampant theft of water metres in recent months. Reaction units recovered one of the stolen items after an extensive foot chase yesterday afternoon.
The suspect dropped a backpack containing the stolen water meter after Reaction Officers spotted him on Dianthus Road shortly after the theft. He managed to evade arrest after he fled into a dense bush.
Drug users are targeting water metres for its internal components which are sold to scrap metal dealers.
