Community catches assaults thief

TRENANCE PARK – A 24-year-old theft suspect who attempted to stab a homeowner on Hemlock End, was assaulted by the community on Sunday morning.

Members of Reaction Unit South Africa arrived on scene at approximately 11:31 and discovered the community assaulting a man. It was established that the drug addict entered a property and was in the process of stealing an outdoor light when he was confronted by the homeowner.

The thief resisted arrest and threatened to stab the homeowner. Residents converged onto the property and disarmed the man after they heard the commotion. They thereafter began assaulting him.

Members of the community complained that drug addicts are entering their yards in broad daylight and stealing copper pipes & light fixtures. The stolen goods are sold to scrap yards and proceeds of the sale are used to purchase drugs.

The suspect is believed to be linked to several thefts that occurred in the area. The man was placed under arrest and handed over to Police for further investigation.
