Suspects nabbed in connection with armed robbery

GAUTENG – JMPD officers from the Taxi Violence / Transportation Unit were stationed at the intersection of Prichard and Harrison Streets in Johannesburg.

A male approached them, recounting an incident where other males had requested his assistance in creating number plates for their Silver Toyota Fortune, which lacked proper registration.

After he crafted the plates, they refused to pay and sped away. The victim pursued them until they stopped at a traffic light. There, one of the passengers brandished a firearm, threatening him. Seeking help, the victim approached the officers.

Together, they embarked on a search for the suspects. Soon, they spotted a Silver Toyota Fortuner with the license plate. Inside the vehicle were five males. The officers instructed the driver to halt at the corner of Albertina Sisulu and Mooi Streets. They ordered all occupants out of the vehicle, calling for backup due to safety concerns.

The victim positively identified the suspects as the ones who had robbed him, pointing out the individual who had threatened him with the firearm. A search uncovered a Taurus Revolver with 12 rounds of ammunition on one of the suspects. Additionally, the stolen number plates were recovered from the vehicle.

The suspects, aged between 22 and 32, were promptly arrested and detained at Johannesburg Central SAPS.
