Raising funds for hero K9 rescue dog

After 10 years of service at W/O Clinton Odayar’s side, it has come time for K9 Dante’s well-deserved retirement, joining a family to become a beloved family pet.

K9 Dante has served the North Coast of KZN, bringing home family members safely, as well as bringing closure to many more. As this K9 hero steps back, he leaves behind a void at Umhlali SAPS K9 Search & Rescue. K9 Dante serves an essential role alongside W/O Clinton Odayar, and without a K9 such as K9 Dante, the Search & Rescue abilities on the KZN North Coast will be severely hampered while a replacement can be trained and deployed by SAPS.

At IPSS Search & Rescue and Life & Style 88fm, we are well aware on how critical it is to find a new K9 partner for W/O Clinton Odayar. A new replacement has been identified from a private K9 training facility in Pietermaritzburg, and K9 Zeus will be joining W/O Clinton Odayar before month end. K9 Zeus, at 2 years old is fully trained to perform the same function as K9 Dante. He will join a SAPS K9 Search & Rescue training program in February, and will be an active SAPS K9 Search & Rescue member within 2 months.

However, the cost of a trained K9 like Zeus will be R60 000, an already reduced rate. So this is a call to our community to assist us in raising the funds to secure K9 Zeus, who will be donated to Umhali SAPS K9 Search & Rescue through IPSS SAR NPO.

Additional funds raised be used by IPSS SAR NPO will be used to conduct essential training to IPSS SAR volunteers as well as upskilling SAPS Search & Rescue and Durban Metro Search & Rescue members.
